Goals and Scientific Programme
To discuss and deliver a scientific report on our current knowledge of EVs as biomarkers of disease and identify challenges in taking EV biomarkers from the research laboratory to the clinic. To engage in proactive discussions on the technical challenges of using EVs as biomarkers of disease and to identify strategies for developing EV biomarkers as diagnostic and prognostic tools for the clinical management of disease.
To promote EV-related biomarkers for clinical use, Birmingham (UK) has been chosen to host the next ISEV workshop. The venue for the workshop will be the College of Medical and Dental Sciences in the University of Birmingham, which will also host the UK-EV Forum on 12th December 2017. The workshop will cover preanalytical challenges in biobanking and analysing EVs from complex biofluids, technical aspects of biomarker discovery/profiling, novel techniques for detecting EV-associated biomarkers and escalation of these processes through GCP, GLP and GMP into a clinical laboratory test for the benefit of patients. The workshop will feature dialogue between academic research scientists and researchers who have made the transition to industry as well as contact between senior and junior researchers. Brief oral presentations will be thematically group-based and interspersed with small group round-table discussions. The workshop is expected to lead to a scholarly publication, such as a position paper in the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles or other suitable journal.
Important: A maximum of 50 participants will be selected on the basis of their expertise and specific contribution in the EV field. Applicants will be asked to provide an abstract of the work they would like to present at the workshop and a brief summary of their contribution to the field of EV biomarkers.
