Within easy walking distance of the De Doelen Convention Centre, the Laurens Church, the only late-Gothic monument from the Middle Ages in Rotterdam, has increasingly become a multi-functional space for concerts, symposiums, parties, company presentations and exhibitions. At the same time this Rotterdam Heritage Site remains a place for art installations, permanent historical exhibitions and church services.
The Church was built between 1449 and 1525. This basilica was the first all stone building in Rotterdam; people could buy citizenship by contributing to the 3000 bricks used in construction of the tower. In 1621 a wooden spire was added to the tower, designed by Hendrick de Keyser.
